은구는 눈에 잘 띄지 않게 만든 도랑이나 수문을 말한다. 화성에서는 남북 두 곳에 은구가 있었다. 북은구는 북포루 동쪽 성벽 아래 설치했는데 성 밖의 작은 도랑물을 끌어들여 성안 북지에 물을 모아 두기 위해 만들었다. 1970년대 수원화성을 복원하면서 발굴조사를 통해 북은구의 위치와 구조를 확인했으나 북지 연못과 함께 정비하기 위해 복원대상에서 제외하였다.

Northern Hidden Ditch
A hidden ditch refers to a drainage path or watergate installed in a non-obvious location to facilitate water drainage in or out of the fortress. In Hwaseong Fortress, there were two hidden ditches, one each in the north and south. The Northern Hidden Ditch was installed under the fortress wall to the east of the Northern Guard Pavilion to gather drain water into the fortress and gather it in the northern pond. During the reconstruction of Hwaseong Fortress in the 1970s, excavations confirmed the location and structure of the Northern Hidden Ditch. However, it was excluded for potential reconstruction.
