취병은 고리버들이나 소나무, 주목, 향나무 등 침엽수의 가지를 지지대에 엮어 문이나 병풍 모양으로 만든 생울타리다. 시선을 차폐하고 공간을 구획하는 역할을 한다. 화성행궁에는 낙남헌 연못과 유여택 후면, 장춘각 전면에 취병이 조성되었다.

낙남헌 연못의 취병은 『임원경제지』와 『정리의궤』를 참고하여 복원되었다. 참나무 지지대로 틀을 만들고 내부에 고리버들과 유사한 갯버들을 심었다. 취병 하단에는 패랭이와 범부채를 심어 아름답게 만들었다.

Trellis

A trellis (chwibyeong in Korean, lit, “folding screen [made of] greenery”) refers to a hedge supported by a wooden frame. Used to obscure the view from outside or separate spaces, a trellis was finished with various trees such as willows, pines, yews, and junipers. The temporary palace at Hwaseong Fortress featured trellises around the pond of Nangnamheon Hall, at the back of Yuyeotaek Hall, and in front of Jangchungak Hall.

This trellis, which consists of rose-gold pussy willow (Salix gracilistyla Miq.) woven onto an oak frame, was reconstructed in 2023 based on historical records.
