수원 화성은 팔달문을 기준으로 좌우 성벽이 단절되어 있다. 이곳은 팔달산 자락을 타고 내려온 성벽이 팔달문과 이어지는 구간으로 120m의 성벽에 남서적대, 남은구가 있었다. 남서적대는 팔달문에서 서쪽으로 약 49m 떨어진 곳에 있었는데 남동적대와 함께 성문을 보호하는 역할을 했다. 1920년대 도로를 넓히기 위해 팔달문 좌우 성벽이 철거되면서 사라졌다. 남은구는 남서적대에서 서쪽으로 약 48m 떨어진 곳에 있었다. 팔달산에서 시작된 물길이 성안의 남지 연못을 거쳐 성밖으로 나갈 수 있도록 만든 수문이다. 성안에는 5곳의 연못과 2곳의 은구가 있었으나 모두 복원되지 않았다.

Disconnected Part of the Southern Section (West)
The fortress wall on either side of Paldalmun Gate has not yet been reconstructed. The 120 m-long fortress wall to the west of Paldalmun Gate was demolished in the 1920s for the purpose of road expansion. This lost fortress wall originally included the Southwestern Gate Guard Post and the Southern Hidden Ditch.
The Southwestern Gate Guard Post, which was located 49 m west of the Southern Semi-circular Wall, was designed to monitor the gate and prevent enemy access.
The Southern Hidden Ditch, which was located 48 m west of the Southwestern Gate Guard Post, was installed to facilitate water drainage out through the Southern Watergate.
