Suwon Cultural Foundation(CEO Kim Seung-guk) will stage the movable exhibition under the theme ‘Suwon Hwaseong Fortress’ at Jangan Park, Hwahongmun Gate, and Hwaseong Haenggung Plaza until November 30.
This exhibition is a modern installation that has artistically interpreted the historicity and physical properties of ‘stone’ which is the most basic unit of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress .
The representative work, is a gate-shaped structure made of polycarbonate and metal. It embodies stones of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress that form a 6m wide, 2m long and 2.6m high rectangular structure that is composed of 10 gradually-decreasing modules.
In addition, you can encounter a 5m wide, 3m long and 4m high stone-shaped sculpture, ; , which is a photo zone containing the images of old Suwon Hwaseong Fortress; , a performance in which four actors represent images as rock gentlemen.
Independent curator Ahn Dae-woong, who organized this exhibition, said “I prepared the exhibition by pondering on how stones, which we see every day, have been transformed throughout the history of mankind and also by recollecting the extremely difficult history associated with the stones of Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, which is called the best fortress of the East, and the many people who lived close to this structure.”
