As part of the 2016 Prospective exhibition of modern and contemporary artists, Suwon hosts an exhibition to showcase traditional artist and the last ‘Dodaebang’ of ‘Hwaseong Jaeincheong’, ‘Woonhak’ Lee Dong-an. Lee (1906~1995) was talented in traditional art including not only traditional dance but also tightrope, somersaulting and acrobatics, and Baltal (mask theater). Hwaseong Jaeincheong was an administrative agency that managed the art performances of civilian artists who performed professionally in the rural areas during the Joseon Dynasty. Because of Imperial Japan’s ‘traditional culture annihilation policy’, Hwaseong Jaeincheong was closed and Lee Dong-an was the last Dodaebang for the defunct agency. This latest exhibition will exhibit a wide range of artifacts of Lee Dong-an including his performance materials and photos, performance footage, and the Baltal he used. Also, a video showing the life of Lee Dong-an and the tumultuous times when he was alive will be screened to help visitors understand his life.
